Shepard's play is a disturbing portrait of a dysfunctional farm family, whose buried child and buried past are forced to come to light when an outsider begins asking questions. The disquiet of the play is expressed in this design through the claustrophobic cornstalks, surreal color scheme, and compressed and distorted type.
