Stage 1   Stage 2
Stage I
As our regular readers know, we usually begin our VisoVerbo explorations by playing around with typefaces. Each face tells a different story, giving a slightly different spin to the quote. While we originally thought we'd go with something a little more in-your-face, we ultimately went with a humorous approach.

Stage II
We selected a very traditional, hoary engraving image that would certainly accompany the classic idea and typography of "Love your enemy." We then slapped on Twain's saucy retort in a handwritten face. But the composition is too staid and the humor isn't quite coming through.

The more dynamic composition heightens the florid sensibility of "Love your enemy." Placing Twain's follow-up line outside the box of the main image gives it more of a graffiti feel. The color and texture of the background are reminiscent of parchment. Our trademark "dynamic diagonal" is apparent between the figure's left-tilted head and the swash on the capital L. The graffiti is tucked in at just the right angle to make a statement without overwhelming the piece. May this holiday season bring us all a little more love and a lot fewer enemies. Happy Holidays!
