Stage I
With the news from London so awful, we wanted to pay tribute to our friends across the pond. We began with this wonderful quote from the ever-inspiring Winston Churchill, typeset in English Serif. The composition started out as a more formal presentation, but we wanted to make a more contemporary visual statement. The result is slightly punk, a tip-o'-the-bowler to a great English export.

Stage II
We wanted a textured, multi-colored background for the type and ended up with this somewhat odd photo. We experimented with various Photoshop filters, finally blurring it vertically beyond recognition and then applying a radial blur to create an interesting composition.

Final
We added a color filter to the background to make the palette more inspirational and turned the background 180 degrees in order to get it to relate better to the "chunks" of type. As for that type, we gave it various effects to make it stand out from the background while still keeping the composition integrated. Somewhere along the line the whole thing began to look vaguely Harry Potter-ish (yet another fabulous British contribution to world culture). All in all, this design is a reminder to find the courage to keep doing our best, even in difficult times.
