Creative process for April 2007 design

Stage 1   Stage 2

Stage I
We wholeheartedly support Dr Suess' statement. Time to get a little wacky. We began with two totally incompatible images: one is a bizarre illustration of a Propeller-Head Man with perhaps a gunshot wound to the arm, and the other a classic shot of Stonehenge. The incongruity is baffling. The brain cells are perking up.

Stage II
But wait, there's more! We zoomed in on Stonehenge and flipped the image to increase the feeling of surrealism. Mr Propeller-Head gets more interesting color treatment. And we added a pink bull. Ostensibly to create dynamic tension and balance Mr Propeller-Head in the composition, but really because no design is truly complete without a pink bull in it. (Scout's Honor. They teach that in design school—advanced courses. Very hush-hush.)

Final
Now we're talkin'! Our bull flips upside down and gets a blended dye job that, believe it or not, tightens up the composition. We added the quote in rah-rah collegiate lettering for reasons we'd prefer not to disclose. The attribution letterforms (i.e. "Dr Suess") are reversed so the letters begin to read like numerals (this is all in keeping with the meaning of the quote folks, stay with us). In an homage to The Majestic Suess, we added the organic squiggly line which shows up so frequently in his books. Stonehenge goes psychedelic with an "explosive" blur effect and Mr Propeller-Head now looks trapped in a yellow snake of color. It makes no sense! We call it good.
