Cairril.com 10-year retrospective
On September 20th, we celebrated our 10th full year in business. We thought it would be fun to revist some of the events that helped get us here.

  • Cairril started freelancing part-time in December 2000. Her first gig was a logo and website design for Jack Brubaker, a nationally known metalsmith. Our work is still in use.
  • We gained momentum via word of mouth, doing work for Conseco, Middleway Food Works, and Wininger/Stolberg. Debi O'Heran of WS Property Group has been with us from the beginning and continues to shine!
  • After much consultation and meditation, Cairril decided to go full-time with Cairril.com Design in September 2001. The economy was just about to tank due to the attacks of September 11th. Fortunately, work kept coming in for logos, brochures, and websites.
  • Cairril began working closely with Brian Kleber, then head of the Bloomington Small Business Development Center, in Fall 2001. She gained not only an outstanding business consultant, but a close friend. She and Brian continue to collaborate.
  • In 2002, Cairril began presenting "Web Smarts" seminars, introducing area small businesses to the strategies necessary to succeed on the Web.
  • In 2003, we won our first American Graphic Design Award. We have now won 15 of the coveted awards, in addition to a bevy of awards in strategy and marketing.
  • Over time, our work shifted from strictly design to consultation and strategy. In 2005, we re-branded as Cairril.com Design & Marketing, offering services in brand development for small businesses. Cathy Moore, now an internationally known e-learning consultant, patiently put up with Cairril's endless fretting over the re-branded marketing materials and was key to developing the Cairril.com voice.
  • Shortly after the re-brand, Cairril became a regular speaker at area events on marketing, brand development, and entrepreneurship. She joined boards at Ivy Tech-Columbus and Indiana University, positions she still holds today. Her firm has been featured in a number of books on design and entrepreneurship.
  • In March 2009, Cairril.com launched two iPhone apps, which received enthusiastic reviews.
  • In 2010, Cairril.com received WBE certification, leading to more projects with state-funded organizations. It was also designated a green business by the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce.

From a one-person freelance operation focused solely on end products, we've grown to a firm which regularly fields teams of 5-10 experts from across the country to handle projects large and small. Our focus remains on helping small and medium size businesses achieve their goals through smart design and marketing. We could not have done it without the support and dedication of our clients, readers, sub-contractors, family, and friends. Our deepest thanks to all who have taken this journey with us!
