POSTER & ADVERTISEMENTDetour Productions needed a poster that expressed the macabre but playful tone of Stoppard's play, which tells the story of Hamlet from two minor characters’ points of view. The play explores the meaning of identity and memory while dizzily dancing in and out of Shakespeare’s original script. And yes, in the end, everybody dies! The title typography fuses traditional type (Shakespeare) with a contemporary, irreverent “slap” of “are dead” (Stoppard). The color palette is warm to keep the image from being scary. The dancing skeleton recalls the danse macabre, communicating the mix of playfulness and ghoulishness that underlie Stoppard’s work.
